Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law #1) by J.A. Saare

Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law #1)

by J.A. Saare

Official blurb:
One bad corpse can ruin your whole day.

No one knows that better than Rhiannon Murphy.

She left behind the flash and sass of Miami for the no-nonsense groove of New York City, eager for a clean slate and a fresh start. A bartender by trade, a loud mouth by choice, and a necromancer by chance; she managed to keep her nifty talent hidden from those around her—until now.

The deliciously good-looking vampire, Disco, knows her secret. When he strolls into her bar to solicit help investigating the mysterious disappearances of his kind from the city, Rhiannon discovers he’s not the kind of person that appreciates the significance of the word no.

But in a world where vampires peddle their blood as the latest and greatest drug of choice, it’s only a matter of time before the next big thing hits the market. Someone or something is killing vampires to steal their hearts, and unlike Rhiannon, this isn’t their first stroll around the undead block.

My Review:
I was hesitant to start this book, the name Disco made me worry that this perhaps was not a book for me. I am happy to say I was wrong. If Disco's name makes you hesitant please get past it, trust me he grows on you quickly.

Rhiannon is a hard character to connect with for the 1st few chapters, I mean she is fun and snarky so you want to read and find out more about her. However, you're not quite sure that you like her. Once her secrets start to unfold, and her shell starts to crack you just want to hug her and promise her that everything is going to be ok.

Rhiannon's sidekick is the adorable Goose a fellow necromancer who sort of becomes her mentor in learning about her powers. This relationship becomes sibling like, I have to say Goose is one of my favorite side characters in a PNR/UF in a long time.

Disco is way sexier than his name would imply. He is deep, mysterious and as the book goes along really you can tell he cares deeply for Rhiannon that it isn't just about sex for him.

There are several other bit players that make up the whole of this book, and the mystery who done it isn't predictable, even if Saire plays with your head a few times making you think you have it figured out, you probably don't. Be warned have the second book on hand, there is a hell of a cliff hanger at the end of the book you'll want to rush to find out what happens. I'm just glad I found the series after the second book came out or I would have been pissed to wait for the next installment.

Spoiler after the break

Disco is just a nickname and there isn't a love triangle in the first book so you don't have to pick a team for her to end up with here ;0)
